Why has American preference in Actors devolved so much?

lolol the actors listed are mainly responsible for the death of cinema. before them we had gregory peck, charleton heston, kirk douglas, john wayne, jimmy stewart, marlon brando, spencer tracey, richard burton, etc etc. when stars were stars, those days are long past (2 generations at least)
